IRONMAN 70.3 Cartagena (Colombia) - 2nd

12/5/2016

Hello Friends,

This past week I raced the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Cartagena ($25,000 purse), and after a FASTEST SWIM and FASTEST BIKE which put me in T2 with a 5 min lead, I hung on for 2nd place among the male professionals.

This sold-out event was a BIG  deal in this crazy Colombian town, with 20-30,000 spectators lining up along the course! As per my usual racing style, it was fun to enjoy it OFF THE FRONT for the vast majority of the race.

ITU Long Distance World Championships - 9th

Fastest swim (tied with Dylan McNiece and Rafael Gonzales), 2nd in T2 off the bike.

Thank you Caleb for the amazing hospitality, and the included "high & tight"! ;)

Some snippets from my top 10 finish (and 2nd American) at @itumultisport Long Distance World Champs (4k swim, 120k bike, 30k run) last Saturday in Oklahoma. Incredibly windy rough water played to my strength for FASTEST SWIM, this time with fellow @blueseventy athlete McNiece and super swimmer Rafa. Managed the 120k ride well, and entered T2 behind eventual winner and World Champ Sudrie after pulling back lots of time on the last 20k. After running well for the first 5k with fellow Italian Molinari , the 90 degrees weather and 50% humidity took their toll and it became survival death march for mostly everyone (some folks march faster than others!). This Long Distance game is no joke. SO MUCH POUNDING. Seems like I've got some work ahead to harden up these pins in order to pound the pavement longer & harder! □ Next up @challengearuba (contact me to come race along!). Thanks @usatriathlon for the opportunity to represent the USA. Thanks to friends and supporters (you know who you are). Shoutout to @blueseventy for the FAST swim gear, @clifbarcompany @teamclifbar for race nutrition, @eastoncycling for the fast tubeless setup, @pioneerpowercycle for the reliable power meter, @polarglobal for the running/cycling watches.
